What ExpertLayer is
What is ExpertLayer?
ExpertLayer is a managed outbound service for expert led firms: consulting, advisory, research, agencies, recruiting and search, fractional executives, training and enablement. We find companies with a problem you can solve right now, build the reason for contacting each one, and run the whole outreach workflow under your name. You read a short weekly summary and take the conversations.
Is it software or a service?
A service. There is no login and no dashboard. AI does the repeatable research and drafting; an operator with two decades of building outbound teams decides what goes out. Everything you receive is a document you can read in a few minutes.
Is this outsourced lead generation?
Not in the usual sense. We do not scrape a list, blast it and count meetings. Volume stays low on purpose, every account has a dated trigger and a named person, and the message carries a business reason or it does not go. The output is relevant conversations, not booked calls with anyone who will take one.
Does this replace salespeople?
No. It replaces the prospecting research and follow up that keeps founders, partners and operators buried. The conversation, the trust and the close are still yours.
The free 10 target review
What do I get when I ask for 10 free targets?
You send your website and a sentence about the customers you want more of. We come back with 10 companies, each with the dated trigger we found, why it maps to what you sell, the person we would contact, and the first line of the angle. It is free and there is no pitch attached.
Why is it free?
Because the account selection is the thing you cannot evaluate any other way. A tool cannot show it to you until you have configured it. An agency cannot show it until the contract is signed. An SDR cannot show it until month four. We would rather you see it first.
What if the 10 targets are wrong?
Then you tell us why, which is useful to both of us, and either we adjust the map and try again or we agree outbound is not the right channel for your practice and say so. Our guide on when outbound is the wrong channel lists the situations where we turn engagements down.
How long does the review take?
A few business days. Longer for very narrow practices where the trigger research takes more care, and we will tell you if that is the case.
The managed engagement
What happens after the target list?
If the list is right, the first week is spent mapping your company and your buyer and agreeing the shape of the outreach. After that a weekly loop runs: fresh account research, an angle per account, the sequence itself, reply monitoring, and a plain summary of what is worth your time. How it works has the full sequence.
Whose name and domain does the outreach use?
Yours. Prospects reply to the person who could do the work. We set up and warm a sending domain alongside your main one so deliverability problems never touch your primary mail.
Who writes the emails?
We draft them per account from the trigger we found. You approve the shape once at the start. Nothing goes out in a voice you have not signed off on, and you see everything in the weekly summary.
How many emails go out a week?
Fewer than you expect. A boutique practice usually runs 30 to 60 new accounts a week with a three or four touch sequence. Your capacity to take conversations is the real ceiling, and the reply rate on a trigger based note does not need volume.
What do I have to do?
Read the summary, take the conversations we flag, and tell us when we are wrong. Your corrections are the most valuable input in the system.
What do I see?
A weekly summary in words: accounts added and dropped, messages sent, replies by type, conversations open, conversations to take. The full target map and reply history sit behind it and are yours to keep.
Fit
Who is this for?
B2B firms where one new client matters and where the founder or a partner is the best salesperson but has no time to prospect. Consulting, advisory and research, agencies and studios, recruiting and search, fractional executive practices, training and enablement. Each has its own page under Who it's for.
Who is this not for?
Companies with an unclear offer, commodity products, consumer products, empty websites, or teams that want a DIY tool. Also practices whose buyers only appear at a moment of crisis, or whose decision sits with a committee nobody can name. Outbound does not fit those, and we say so.
We are very niche. Is that a problem?
Narrow is easier. A tight definition of who you serve lets us filter on trigger and fit rather than industry codes. Most boutique practices have several hundred bullseye accounts in reach at any time.
Brand safety and data
Will cold outreach cheapen our brand?
Volume with no reason cheapens a brand. A short note that names a real, current situation at the prospect's company and offers a specific point of view reads like expertise, because it is. We keep volume low and relevance high, and the founder's name is on every message.
Do you fake personalization?
No. No lines about a recent post, an alma mater or the weather. Every message carries a business reason grounded in something observable at the account, with a date, or it does not go.
Who owns the research?
You do. The target map, the trigger notes, the angles and the reply history are delivered as documents as we go. If you pause, you keep everything.
Do you work with competing firms?
Not in the same niche at the same time. If you and another firm serve the same buyers, one of you is a client and the other is not.
Pricing
How much does it cost?
The 10 target review is free. The managed engagement is priced monthly and includes the research, the angles, the sending infrastructure, the monitoring and the weekly summary. Current pricing is on the home page.
Is there a minimum term?
A trigger based program needs a few weeks to show what it can do, so we ask for a short initial commitment and go month to month after that. The specifics are on the pricing section of the home page.
How does the cost compare to hiring or an agency?
Well below an agency and a fraction of a fully loaded SDR. Our guides on what an SDR actually costs and on agency versus hire versus tool versus managed service put the numbers side by side.
